The University of Lahore (UoL), Department of Civil Engineering (DCE) in collaboration with the Institute of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) recently organized a national conference on rehabilitation and strengthening of structures (NCRSS) with an aim of promoting research culture in the country. The conference that targeted engineers, architects, technologists, professionals, academicians, and students focused on the structural strength of the new buildings along with variety of techniques to maintain the strength of the existing ones.

Twenty-one academic but real-world papers were presented by notable speakers like the Director of Construction Chemicals Div., Imporient Chemicals (Pvt) Ltd., Dr. Wajahat H. Mirza; the Managing Director of Progressive Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, Eur-Ing Sarfraz Ahmad; the Director of Earthquake Engineering Center UET Peshawar, Prof. Dr. Syed Muhammad Ali; and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology at Superior University, Prof. Dr. Syed Ali Rizwan.

Participants, speakers, and the UoL administration realized and appreciated the need to organize such a conference twice annually in order to update and strengthen the academia-industry partnership. The department received several appreciation letters that were congratulating for organizing such a successful and effective event. The conference coordinator also the Head of Civil Engineering Dept., Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zulfiqar Ali Khan said that his department is now set to host international conferences that will expose his students to contemporary global engineering issues.

Prof. Dr. M. Ashraf Sheikh; Engr. Muhammad Ali Khan; Engr. Akhtar Abbas; and Engr. Gouhar Sultana.
