By participating in the biggest international rugby tournament branded as ‘Dubai Rugby Sevens’ from November 30 to December 2017, the University of Lahore appears to be the first university to represent Pakistan academic institutions in such a global sports event. More than 240 clubs participated in this event along with international teams from South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Argentina, USA, Canada and many other countries. UOL Team comprised of Manan Naseem, Muhammad Shoaib, Umar Usman, Tauqeer Rana, Ahmed Waseem, Muhammad Ayub, and Khalid Bhatti managed to reach the quarter finals and it was not an easy ride to knock it out. Tauqeer feels that this was a historic move not only for the UOL but also to them as players. “It was our first time to participate in such an international tournament. We had wonderful time, fun and interaction with players from around the globe. The environment was nice and the playgrounds were convenient for the game.” He said while talking to the Spectacle, December 26, 2017. “We are thankful to the UOL administration for the support given and we are hopeful that our team will continue doing wonders year by year,” he added.
