Comics for peace, an animated movies forum, provided an inspirational mood to the University of Lahore students especially those from the School of Creative Arts (SOCA) to begin tapping into the new phase of cinema’s comics and animation. The exciting platform was organised by UOL’s Media Society under the supervision of its Patron Mr. Mateen Muzaffar on February 7, 2018 at Auditorium I.
The guests for the day’s discussion were Mr. Joshua Dysart, a comic writer for DC Comics, Vertigo Comics, Dark Horse Comics and Image Comics, the President of Paasban—The Guardian, Pakistan’s first 3D movie, Mr. Mustafa Hasnain, and his team that included Yahah Ehsan and Gohar Aftab.
While addressing students, Mr. Mustafa who is the founder of Creative Village and former SOCA head said; “This is a good opportunity for those who have enough courage to do good work in animation industry. For this purpose, we want to select students from nine different universities and the final two best students will get a chance to go San Diego, America”. He added that the animation drive is taking the title of ‘Comic for Peace’ so that a message is sent to the rest of the world that Pakistan is a peaceful country.
On his part Mr. Daysart told students to enhance their skills in comic and animation industry saying that it is the new trend worth taking up for the young movie makers.
While commenting on the event, Media Society patron said; “The event was vital for our students especially those pursuing film and television. We need many of such events to expose students to current industry developments.”
